Canada Tax — Level 2

The corporate half of the Canada Tax program: how a Canadian-controlled private corporation is taxed, the T2 return and its main schedules, the small business deduction and the associated-corporation rules that limit it, and how to reason through a salary-versus-dividends recommendation for an owner-manager. Builds directly on Canada Tax — Level 1.

The CPA way of learning

Self-Study → Assess → Tutor → Practice → Simulation

Five stages, in order. You finish by preparing returns, not by watching them.

  1. STEP 01

    Self-Study

Bite-sized slide lessons you work through at your own pace, on your own schedule. Every topic stands alone, so you can go straight to the one you need and come back to it later as a refresher.

  2. STEP 02

    Assess your knowledge

Graded quizzes after each module tell you what actually landed. You do not move on because you paged through the slides; you move on because you can answer for it.

  3. STEP 03

    Live tutor session

Scheduled sessions with a practising accountant, over Zoom or Google Meet. This is where the things a slide deck cannot answer get answered, against your own questions and your own files.

  4. STEP 04

    Practical cases

Real client scenarios prepared end to end in real tax software. Slips, receipts, a messy set of facts and a return that has to balance — the work as it arrives on a desk, not as it appears in a textbook.

  5. STEP 05

Real customer simulation using agentic AI

A live interview with an AI client who only tells you what you think to ask, and who forgets, hedges and contradicts themselves the way real clients do. You conduct the intake, spot what is missing, and file on what you gathered.

What this level adds

Canada Tax — Level 1 gets you filing personal returns confidently. Level 2 takes the same practical approach into the corporate side: the return a small owner-managed business actually files, and the decisions — salary or dividends, how much of each — that come with advising that owner. It assumes Level 1 or equivalent working knowledge of the personal system, since the integration between personal and corporate tax is most of what makes owner-manager planning worth understanding properly.

Built around the return a small practice actually sees

Most corporate clients a new preparer meets are Canadian-controlled private corporations run by one or two owners, not public companies. This course is scoped to exactly that: the T2 and its core schedules, active business income, the small business deduction, and the rules, like corporate association, that quietly reduce it. It closes with a live, unscripted client interview against an AI client, so the judgement of what to ask and what to do with the answer is practised, not just described.

Who This Course Is For

CPA and business students

If you are working towards the CPA designation, this fills the gap between what you are examined on and what you will be asked to do in your first week at a firm. The theory you are studying is not wrong, it is just not yet usable. This course makes it usable. You arrive able to pick up a set of files and work them without supervision, which is exactly the thing that gets noticed by the managers and partners around you.

Accountants moving into tax practice

If you already practise and you are considering adding tax preparation, or moving into it entirely, this is a structured refresher and a working reference in one. It is written by practising accountants for practising accountants, so it does not spend your time on ground you already hold. It gets you to the point of taking on returns for clients, and it tells you honestly where the limits of an introductory course are.

What's Inside

Select any module to read what it covers. Order and gating are set by the instructor.

01The corporate return: T2 and the small business deduction

How a corporation is taxed and why it changes the advice you give. The T2 return and its main schedules, active business income, the small business deduction, and the associated-corporation rules that quietly take it away.

02Salary, dividends and integration

Paying an owner-manager: salary against dividends, how integration is supposed to work, and where it does not. The reasoning behind a remuneration recommendation, so you can defend the one you make.

03Corporate tax: graded assessment

A graded assessment on the corporate material. Sat in Safe Exam Browser, with a pass mark of 80%.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to take Level 1 first?

It is strongly recommended. This course assumes you already know the personal-return material in Canada Tax — Level 1, since the owner-manager remuneration content depends on understanding both sides of the tax system, not just the corporate one.

When does the course start and finish?

It opens as soon as your enrollment is confirmed and runs until the end of the intake you chose. See the intakes on this page for dates. Within your intake the course is self-paced: there are no scheduled classes to attend.

How long do I have access?

Until your intake finishes, on any device you own. Each intake’s end date is shown on this page and when you choose your intake. When the intake finishes, access to the course ends.

Are there tests or assessments?

Yes. A graded quiz on the corporate material, sat in Safe Exam Browser with a pass mark of 80%, plus a live AI client-interview simulation to practise the intake judgement a real file requires.

Are there live tutor sessions? When do they run?

Yes. Alongside the self-paced lessons, we run live tutor sessions with our partners over Zoom or Google Meet on Saturdays, 6:00 to 9:00 AM Central Time (Winnipeg). The Live Tutor Sessions section on this page shows that time where you are, and lets you add the sessions to your calendar.

What if the course is not right for me?

Tell us within 14 days of buying and we will refund you in full, as long as you have completed no more than two lessons and have not attempted any quiz or assessment. Once the refund is processed, your access to the course ends.
