How it works

From application to certificate.

Five steps to get in, and five stages once you are there.

Getting a Place

  1. 1

    Apply for a place

Choose your course and fill out a short form. It takes a few minutes, then you pay securely by card to get started right away.

  2. 2

    Get your login

As soon as your payment is confirmed, you'll get an email with a link to set up your own password and sign in.

  3. 3

    Install Safe Exam Browser

Graded assessments run inside Safe Exam Browser, a free locked-down browser. You install it once, using the configuration file linked in the setup guide below and in your welcome email.

  4. 4

    Work through the course

Slide lessons, readings, quizzes, practical cases, live tutor sessions and an AI client interview — in the order your instructor set.

  5. 5

    Earn your certificate

Complete the course and pass the assessments, and a certificate is issued with a verification code anyone can check on this site.

The CPA way of learning

Self-Study → Assess → Tutor → Practice → Simulation

Five stages, in order. You finish by preparing returns, not by watching them.

  1. STEP 01

    Self-Study

Bite-sized slide lessons you work through at your own pace, on your own schedule. Every topic stands alone, so you can go straight to the one you need and come back to it later as a refresher.

  2. STEP 02

    Assess your knowledge

Graded quizzes after each module tell you what actually landed. You do not move on because you paged through the slides; you move on because you can answer for it.

  3. STEP 03

    Live tutor session

Scheduled sessions with a practising accountant, over Zoom or Google Meet. This is where the things a slide deck cannot answer get answered, against your own questions and your own files.

  4. STEP 04

    Practical cases

Real client scenarios prepared end to end in real tax software. Slips, receipts, a messy set of facts and a return that has to balance — the work as it arrives on a desk, not as it appears in a textbook.

  5. STEP 05

Real customer simulation using agentic AI

A live interview with an AI client who only tells you what you think to ask, and who forgets, hedges and contradicts themselves the way real clients do. You conduct the intake, spot what is missing, and file on what you gathered.

Technical Requirements

For lessons

Any phone, tablet or computer with an up-to-date web browser and an internet connection.

For graded assessments

A Windows or Mac computer with Safe Exam Browser installed (free; set-up below). Phones, tablets and Chromebooks cannot be used to sit assessments.

For live tutor sessions

A device that can join a Zoom or Google Meet call.

Setting Up Safe Exam Browser

Graded quizzes and assessments open inside Safe Exam Browser (SEB), a free locked-down browser that keeps nothing else on your computer reachable while you sit them. It is a one-time setup: install it once, and every assessment afterward opens through the same configuration file.

1. Download Safe Exam Browser

Get the installer for your operating system from the official Safe Exam Browser site:

2. Get the course configuration file

The configuration file is not published yet. It will appear here once staff upload it from the admin console.

  1. Install Safe Exam Browser for your operating system.
  2. Download and open the configuration file above - it will launch the course platform automatically inside the locked browser.
  3. Log in with the account you just set up.

3. Check your setup before your first assessment

Inside Safe Exam Browser, go to uscanadataxschool.com/seb-check. It tells you straight away whether your computer is ready to sit a graded assessment, so a problem is found days before the exam, not during it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I pay online?

Yes. Choose your course on the Apply form, then pay securely by card. As soon as your payment is confirmed, you will get an email with a link to set up your login.

When can I start?

Most courses are self-paced and start as soon as your payment is confirmed. Some run on a seasonal intake instead; where a course does, its intake dates are shown on its course page.

How are lessons delivered?

As slide lessons you work through at your own pace, alongside readings, graded quizzes and live tutor sessions over Zoom or Google Meet.

What is Safe Exam Browser for?

Graded assessments open inside a locked browser so nothing else on your computer is reachable while you sit them. It is free, and the Setting Up Safe Exam Browser guide on this page walks you through installing it before your first assessment. Your welcome email links to the same guide.

What is the AI client interview?

A case written by your instructor. You interview a simulated client who holds facts back until you ask the right question, then prepare the return on what you gathered.

Can I retake a failed quiz?

Yes, up to the number of attempts set on that quiz. The pass mark and attempts allowed are shown before you start.

What about refunds, access length and CPD hours?

Those are set per course. Each course page lists its own terms in its FAQ.
